Working out During Pregnany

I have always been into exercise and was probably at my fittest not long before falling pregnant with Lexa.
My training over the years has been vastly different. I started with just gym classes like Body Combat, Box Fit, Steps etc. I've tried CrossFit and then went back to the gym and did weight training. In between all of this I always did workouts at home using YouTube and eBooks.
Just two months before I found out I was pregnant with Lexa I had re-started Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide (BBG). I knew I wanted to keep my exercise routine during my pregnant but I also thought I would be best to change my trainings as BBG was high intensity. This was also pre the Sweat App.
I always knew I wanted to workout during my pregnancy as I had heard so many benefits of doing so. Such as;
- Reduces backaches, constipation, bloating and swelling
- Could help with gestational diabetes
- Increases your energy and mood
- Promotes muscle tone, strength and endurance (something you need for)
I decided to change up my routine and did some workouts from Sinead Disaya Sweat Believe Roar ebook as they did not involve so much jumping and follow YouTube Pregnancy Fitness videos. I also continued with my morning gym routine just didn't push myself as hard.
Working out during the first trimester was rather difficult! I was so slack and just always tired. I was lucky and did not get morning sickness, but the fatigue took over. I attempted to get 3 workouts a week in, however, most of this trimester it was two workouts and a walk around the block with the three dogs.
During this trimester I came across Tone It Up and as it happens one of their main trainers was also pregnant and was sharing her workout routine; so I followed them and followed along.
Second trimester, I felt more like myself again! I managed to get my three workouts in each week, plus my walk. I followed advice that I had heard listening to the pregnancy videos on YouTube and removed all exercises that required me to lie on my back. I came across BodyFit by Amy on YouTube as she had some safe core training videos for each trimester.
For my third trimester I didn't change anything up. Just continued as normal, made sure my heart rate didn't get too high and listened to what my body needed.
I'm glad I continued to workout during my pregnancy and I believe it helped me enjoy and experience and have such a good pregnancy.
Please know this is just my experience and if you were physically active before falling pregnant, it is likely safe to remain active during pregnancy. If you are worried whether you should be working out pregnant please consult your midwife/doctor.
